A Little Mystery Explained

When I went into hospital with swallowing problems it was because of problems that I was experiencing high up in the oesophagus.

Anyone reading the blog may be forgiven for wondering why the displaced stent caused this because the stent is positioned low down at the main site of the tumour.

I spoke with the consultant on my way into theatre and he explained that the feeling could still be high up even if the problem lay with the stent.

I thought I would mention that as a matter of record (for myself, even if no-one else is interested)!

Thanks for the update and as always thinking of you and yours. The Weetabix sounds like a good idea, and as you know or should remember is that even just whole milk is pretty calorific without being overly "heavy". Nesquick can be a good thing if you like chocolate!

  2. Hey Rumps!

Good to see you're doing better. Read you've experienced some weight loss which is very common so wouldn't be too worried about it, but you're def going about it the right way to try and put it back on!

I know it can be difficult eating all the fatty foods, so when my dad was having similar problems we got him the supplemental shakes/juices that have a lot of the vitamins/minerals/etc. It def made a difference and you should look into it, theres a fair few of em like 'ensure' or 'fortysip' so may be best to find which suits you best.

Im sure youll be up and about in no time mate! Keep it going!

    Best wishes,

    Wall St.

  3. Hi Rumps
Good comment from Wall Street, I was wondering the same, if you could get some of those weight builder drinks (not body builder!) not suggesting you try steroids!
Glad you were feeling a bit better earlier, hope it has continued in that vein.
    Best wishes

  4. Hi Swordfish, just lost my post which in summary said: sounds like some more positive possibilities to raise calorific intake and gain some strength. Also love from all of us here in the Celtic heartlands. Now a deep philisophical question - where to lost posts go. Think I'll stick to lost hobbits.

  5. Hi Rumps,

Good to see you have come through a troublesome couple of days on the bright side - keep it up
    :-)

Can I take it you are in contact with, and bouncing these calorie issues off the Nutritionist at the hospital? I assume you are, but just checking; there are drinks out there that can provide this stuff.

My best wishes through the ether to you and yours.

    :-)

  6. Hi Swordfish

I have been trying to remember what drinks your nan used when she was in your situation and Wall St reminded me. They were "Fortysip" drinks. They were very nutritious and nan said they were very tasty. I have come across Nestle Build-up drinks on the internet too. Google them and make up your own mind.

Love to you and thinking of you always.

  7. Hi Rumps

Having looked after several relatives with the big C, I can vouch for the usefulness of 'Ensure' meal replacement drinks. I think the District or Macmillan Nurse provided a prescription...chocolate, banana or whatever on the NHS...lol...

Failing that roll up a twenty quid note and snort a few lines of the Bolivian marching powder. Nothing like 'the Devil's Dandruff' to perk you up on a lacklustre morning...so I'm told anyway .
