Dad Goes home

The best bit of news today is that my dad has returned from hospital after his stroke.  He is out several weeks ahead of schedule, though clearly has a long road of rehabilitation ahead.

Things have not been easy for him or my mother.  My mother has had to contend with having a sick son in London and a sick husband in South Wales.  It is plenty to have on one's plate though her worries about not getting up to see me have been deeming inconsequential by the weather the last few days as she has been snowed in!

Many years ago I wrote a piece about my father and how I saw him from a childhood memory on the beach.

  1. I'm grateful that dad taught me many things about nature, the most important of which was learning to be still & quiet if you wanted to see animals & birds. Also knowing how close you could get to them without them getting frightened. Not many people seem to understand these things now, even adults. When I went to a badger watching evening, people were fidgeting & talking. They seemed to think that it was ok because we were in a hide but animals have very good hearing.

  2. Good News that your Dad is home. Bee spoke to your mam earlier tonight and she sounded hugely relieved. The snow has complicated visiting and she has been hoping that it wouldn't prevent his return home. Hope to get up to see him tomorrow. He's made great progress and there is a strong feeling that something has returned that he lost in previous episodes. He seems brighter and very positive. Hopefully this lifts the end of a tough week for you. The poem was pretty impressive for a DJ. I thought us singer songwriters had a monopoly on insight, introspection and evocation of memory. Can't quite see it set to a 150bpm, four to the floor dance track though. Agreed with your sentiments about Christmas. Even as an evangelical atheist I feel its a good occasion for people to love each other a bit more and appreciate the important things in life like family and love for their fellow human beings. If only we could extend it 24/7, 365.

I hope to be chauffering your mam to you again soon after Christmas day. Have been sending some Tai Chi energy when I can and I hope it helps you enjoy a good family Xmas day. Give mine and Bee's love to Kitten and the kids.

  3. Rumps,

I am sure you may add a "Xmas Special" blog entry, but as a Scandinavian I have to wish you and your family a Merry Xmas - right now, today - as we celebrate on Christmas Eve! None of this nancy Christmas Day lark:)

    Perhaps we are just impatient?

All the very best and of course thinking of you and yours!
